A few of our regular troupe are performing in a play this week by Kilkenny’s main theatrical institution Watergate Productions. Wild Harvest by Ken Bourke marks the 40th production by the Watergate Theatre’s in house company who have been the most prolific theatre makers in Kilkenny for the past 20 plus years.
The play was first produced by Druid in 1989 with a cast headed up by the late, great Mick Lally. Now 20 years later its themes of unemployment, migration, depression and disintegrating families seems very apt all over again. It also marks the first time that Watergate Productions have produced a play by Ken Bourke, a Kilkenny based playwright who has created some fantastic work over the past 20 years for a variety of companies with plays like The Hunt For Red Willie and Buck Jones and the Body Snatchers.
Erstwhile Deviousers David Thompson, John Morton, Ken McGuire, Alan Butler and Seán Hackett (basically our entire male cast of Accidental Death Of An Anarchist) will be appearing in the drama alongside David O’Rourke and Nicola Keating. The production is directed by Ger Cody.
Wild Harvest runs from tomorrow March 22nd to Saturday March 26th at 8pm nightly. Tickets can be booked at the Watergate Theatre on 056 – 7761674. Photos by Ross Costigan.
