About The Show
Ken, Niamh, Kevin and John aren’t sure how to do theatre anymore. They’ve been toiling away for 15 years in the same spaces without any money and now they’re running out of ideas and purpose. A global catastrophe has destroyed theatre and now these Four Horsefolk aren’t even sure they have an audience to perform to anymore. These four lost souls somehow find their way onto the stage to take stock of who they are, what they’re about and the eternal question of contemporary Irish theatre…. why now? They take the ruins of their long lost pet projects: protest pieces, murder mystery podcasts, the Trocaire Box, the Kilkenny witch trials, Lucia Joyce’s descent into madness and yes, a play about hurling. All of these form the smouldering ashes of their stint in development hell, but can they cobble them together into a theatrical phoenix and rise from the flames?
Development Hell was performed in Cleeres Theatre, Kilkenny on October 12th and 13th 2021 as part of the Lámh Chúnta series.
