Margaret – Work In Progress Reading

Margaret. The most beautiful woman in her hometown. Friend. Criminal.

This weekend we’re presenting a work in progress reading of Margaret, a new play by Niamh Moroney.

Margaret: the beauty of her town-land, a rebellious soul, a “floozy”, a close family friend, a personal hero, a criminal; sentenced to death by the Irish State in 1937. This story has been passed down from hand to mouth, from mouth to hand.

In her new play, Niamh Moroney pieces back together Margaret’s story, and her struggle to keep control over her own life in 1930’s Ireland.

Niamh Moroney is a founding member of Devious Theatre. Her last play was the acclaimed touring show Pulled.

It will be performed by David Thompson and Anne Marie O’Brien both of whom we’re delighted to welcome back to the fold. The reading is taking place in The Home Rule Club as part of AKA Fringe.

Margaret, will be shared at work-in-progress stage for feedback in association with ourselves and as part of TRASNA – a networking event for Irish playwrights to be held in the Home Rule Club on the morning of August 17th. The reading will be followed by a feedback session and a Q&A.

Margaret is proudly supported the ArtLinks Theatre Bursary Award.
