Cannibal! The Musical (or, Alferd Packer The Musical) was our big 2007 offering and comes directly from Trey Parker, creator of the South Park Series. The show had never been performed on Irish soil so we were delighted to bring the Irish premiere of the show to Kilkenny. Here’s what the good folks in American have to say…

Cannibal! The Musical is the true story of the only person convicted of cannibalism in America – Alferd Packer. The sole survivor of an ill-fated trip to the Colorado Territory, he tells his side of the harrowing tale to news reporter Polly Pry as he awaits his execution. And his story goes like this: While searching for gold and love in the Colorado Territory, he and his companions lost their way and resorted to unthinkable horrors, including toe-tapping songs!

The show is certainly more comedy based than musical based but with songs like “When I Was On Top Of You”, “Lets Build A Snowman” and “Hang The Bastard”, plenty audience members found themselves singing and laughing along!

This was our first large-scale production and took place in the Watergate Theatre, Parliament Street, Kilkenny from August 22nd to August 25th 2007.

It was directed by Ken McGuire and Kevin Mooney with musical direction by Kevin Reade. It played to healthy audiences who weren’t so healthy when they left and received some lovely reviews from the Kilkenny People and The Munster Express.
