Happy First Birthday Devious Theatre

We’re delighted to say that The Devious Theatre Company is officially one year old. We’re not marking the occasion by going wild just yet (though we’ll have something planned soon enough) but we’d like to thank everyone we’ve worked with in the past year and continue to work with.
This date late year myself (Ken), John, Kevin, Niamh and Angela sat around a table outside The Marble City Tea Rooms and unleashed a mountain of planning that would become The Devious Theatre Company in a short space of time. We assigned roles, delegated tasks, and promptly organised our first show ‘Heart Shaped Vinyl’. While we work well as individuals we perform best as a team and over the last year we’ve grown a lot stronger in our roles, to the point where we’re now in pre-production stage of two shows, breaking in two directors, developing scripts and probably piling on a few extra pounds with all the Sunday morning breakfast meetings that have gone on religiously (bar a Christmas break) for the last year.
To the local press, the Kilkenny Advertiser, John Cleere, Cleere’s Theatre, Kate St. John, Mike Kelly and all at Young Irish Film Makers, KilkennyMusic.com, Ger Cody & co. at the Watergate Theatre, the cast and crew of Heart Shaped Vinyl in Kilkenny, the cast and crew of Heart Shaped Vinyl in Maynooth and the cast and crew of the upcoming Cannibal! The Musical along with all our internet and MySpace friends and relatives – we salute you in a most devious manner and thank you for getting us through the first year, here’s to the beginning of our second.

We’re delighted to announce that the casting process for Cannibal! has pretty much been wrapped up with all primary actors having been alerted to their roles in the show.
Alferd Packer will be played by Dave Thompson (Liam, Heart Shaped Vinyl), Shannon Wilson Bell will be played by John Morton (Gerry, Heart Shaped Vinyl), Israel Swan by Ken McGuire (Des, Heart Shaped Vinyl), George Noon by Niamh Moroney (Kate, Heart Shaped Vinyl), Miller by Ross Costigan (Jimmy, Heart Shaped Vinyl) while Polly Pry will be played by Amy Dunne (Sue, Heart Shaped Vinyl).
The Devious Theatre Company would like to welcome some new actors to the fold as well, all of whom we have worked with at some point in the past through Dreamstuff Theatre or other theatre groups in Kilkenny. These are Stephen Colfer (Humphrey), Paddy Dunne (Frenchy), Dave Minogue (Nutter) and Eddie Brennan (Loutzenheiser).
We feel that we’ve got a fantastic cast and are looking forward to getting stuck into the remainder of the script adjustments and the start of the rehearsal process. At present, the script is being worked on by John Morton (playing Bell) while Ken (McGuire) and Kevin (Mooney) who are directing are currently going through the production motions, starting rehearsal schedules, press releases and all the other fun bits.
